No One Reads Blogs On The Weekends

I'm hoping this slides under the radar. What are the odds? A long while back, Deb, over at I Obsess, dared me to post my prom picture. It took me this long to find it. Actually, I didn't find it. My thirteen year-old daughter did. There's a particular kind of humiliation in having your daughter come shrieking up the stairs yelling "Oh my GAWD, mum, I can't believe you WORE that!"

I thought I rocked that Scarlett O'Hara look.

Hopefully I've blocked out enough of the guy's face that he's not recognizable. Never mind that this was 20-odd years ago and I'm sure he looks different now. But if anyone does recognize him (my friend K excepted), let me know and I'll go black out even more of his smug cheating abusive face.

Apologies for all the white space. I suck at editing photos.

I find myself reading blogs a lot on weekends, which I suppose could be interpreted as very lame by some.

You definitely rocked the Scarlett O'Hara look, and rocked it hard. I don't know if Scarlett had feathered hair, but I'm sure she totally would have had she been a child of the 1980s rather than the Antebellum period.

The other day I was asking myself who wears white to the prom? (I did..because I had a wedding dress that was altered from my brother's ex wife's first marriage. We couldn't find anyone to dye it.) Anyway you look very nice for it being 1984. No really! I've seen some wackydo prom pictures before.
And you can see I read blogs on the weekend!

Way to show off your pretty shoulders!! (I read blogs at weekends)

LOL, I read more blogs on the weekends than during the week. I think you looked great! I'm way too embarasses to post my prom pictures, and I don't think I even have any anymore. I loved that dress though...

I hated my prom dress - it was a homemade (by someone who couldn't sew) re-purposed bridesmaid's dress because my mom wouldn't let me buy a new dress.

Did you wear a hoop?

I took my daughter prom dress shopping....Q#%^ the only dress she liked was $400 and I can't possibly spend that kind of money. http://www.edressmeprom.com/prom11741na.html At least what she liked wasn't extremely provocative with cutouts.

I sat watching her try on and remembered the white cotton eyelet gown I wore. I never showed her that pic. Then I read your blog today.

Thanks for posting. :-)

p.s. I check your blog daily.

Love it!
Considering my prom was 10 years ago, I wonder if I am approaching the huor zone with my dress now too - and I wonder where my pictures are...

I think you look wonderful. I do believe I burned my prom pics :)

I think you look beautiful. I see that you didn't take any fashion advice from a gay guy :). I hope you're not still made at me for that post! I read your blog almost everyday. How's the dog next door? I think about him/her often. I'm hoping he/she gets some help/love.

A photo of you NEVER escapes me.

You looked great. Perfect.

I think you look beautiful! :-) And I like the dress. I wouldn't wear it, but on you it looks nice.

It was in 1984, Allison. I wouldn't be wearing that now either. I may be frump girl these days, but at least I'm not hopelessly out of date frump girl.

I guess it didn't so much fly under the radar, eh?

Just make sure you take lots and lots and lots of photos of her prom dress, when the time comes.

If it's any consolation, my 1988 prom dress is frighteningly similar, except in royal blue :) Mom and I picked it out of the JC Penney catalog, as I recall it cost all of $78.00.

Oh the times, they are a-changin'...!

Gotta love the 80's! You look so pretty Julia!

I would've been all over that dress, too. I didn't go to prom — no boyfriend, not enough confidence to go alone. Because the message was that a girl without a date is nothing, really. Graaaah stupid patriarchal teenage culture. Graah stupid teenage girl buying into stupid patriarchal culture.
Also, anonymous, my WEDDING dress cost less than that prom dress. The dresses just get smaller and more expensive every year, I guess. I am quaking in my boots thinking what Eliza will wear at hers. Probably an $800K G-string and pasties.

I think you look absolutely lovely ... and rockin' the baby's breath in your hair.

That's a great pic, the dress suited you very well. Teenagers are always embarrassed over their parents.

the dated attire aside, you look adorable. you totally rocked the gunne-sax, betch.

xoxoxo

p.s. well done on responding to my call for this photo. and I love you extra for having taken so long to get to it, because that's still better than I would've done.

you're rad. or, um, bitchin? no. you're WICKED.

I remember my best friend's sister had a dress like yours and I was so envious. I remember thinking how glamorous she looked, LOL.

I would've worn that dress back in the day.

You are the quintessential 80's prom girl.

Geesh to think that I posted my photo without even knowing of the challenge! You look adorable compared to the mess I was!

I tagged you for a "7 weird things about me" post. Will you please participate? Thank you in advance if you will and let me know if you don't want to! This is my first time doing anything like this!

Christina said...

You look beautiful in that dress! And what a perfect 80's dress, too!

Green-Eyed Momster said...

Thank you, thank you for playing along. I don't care if you don't tag anyone else. I just hope that I'm not the weirdest person in the world!
Word Verification: urtyt! I am easily amused!

Ha! I had a scarlett O'Hara wedding dress so I can't laugh. But I still am.

(And you totally made that dress work, chica!)

My sister wore that dress, in the ice blue version, for prom in 1982-ish. The elastic on one of the upper arm sleeve caps gave up the ghost before she got to the dance so she ended up with a flopping arm to go with the flopping lace.
I never went to prom - my future husband and I went on a trip to San Francisco and saw the musical 'Hair'. Since both our dads worked for an airline, it was cheaper for us to fly to SF and get tickets to the musical v. buy tickets to the prom, get a fancy dress and hair done, the flowers, etc.

I cannot believe you wore that. And showed people! How very brave.

Oh, that? That is awesome! And adorable!! Was that a classic Laura Ashley dress, by chance?!

kittenpie said...

Hee HEE! love it. So classic. Was that Gunne Sax?

I'd totally post mine if I, oh, had a scanner and knew how to edit out faces.
