My grandmother

My grandmother, Letha Nelson (in glasses) with her sister Elva and brother Paul, circa 1920.

During high school - must have been around 1920 also.

Again with her brother Paul, probably closer to 1928-ish.

My sister, my grandmother and me (don't ask about my sister's hair) at her 100th birthday party. My dad thinks I look like my grandmother, but I don't see it, really. Only in the forehead.

Having a bit of a tipple at her birthday party this past November.

Julia,

Really beautiful photographs.

Thank you so much for sharing...

It's hard losing a grandparent, especially one with whom you've felt a strong bond.

But what a tremendous gift your grandmother has given you-- those wonderful stories shared when you were grown. When you could understand and truly appreciate their value.

Sending you a huge hug, and many thoughts of support.

I *immediately* saw your grandmother in you. Your dad is right!

First, your grandmother was beautiful as a young girl and she aged amazingly well...smooth peaches and cream skin.

Second, when I saw the picture of you and your sister, the first thing I thought was "That girl in the glasses looks just like the grandmother as a young girl", then I read the caption and found it was you!

You do have your grandmother's features and I think your glasses emphasizes that even more.

I'm so sorry for your loss. I miss my beloved Granny every day of my life.

The photographs are wonderful.

Girl? Shannon, I love you. :) I'm 39 years old.

Thanks for the comments, everyone. I thought I'd be dreading this day, but all I feel is relief that she's done enduring. She'd said, many times over the last few years, that she couldn't understand why she couldn't just die, that she was tired of living. I'm glad she finally got her wish.

Julia,

I'm really sorry for your loss, but glad that you seem to feel a sense of peace.

These are wondeful photographs - ones to treasure along with all your other memories.

Wow Julia - you really DO look like her. I immediately saw the resemblance. Amazing.

Beautiful photos - I love looking at old pictures, there is something so melancholy about them. Thanks for sharing them.

OK Julia, you don't look 39. You look pretty good. You obviously have good family genes.

And I spoke with my neighbor and she said for you and your daughter to call because their internet is down.

I know you have a lot going on right now, but I'll email their number so that when you're ready, you can call.

I don't see your email, so email me at shannonbgb@yahoo.com and I'll forward you their number.
