Step Out The Front Door Like A Ghost Into The Fog*

We decided to take the house. It's a bit small, but I think it will work out fine. It means we have to get rid of some of our crappe, but that's fine. We have too much crappe anyway.

Problem is, the walls. The living room is teal. The dining room, mauve. Upstairs bedrooms are navy blue and blood red, respectively. Horrible colours. I really hope we can get in there the weekend before we move so we can paint things a little more, uh, reasonably. Sage, maybe, or something. Something that isn't teal or mauve. Or navy or blood red. It's like it was painted by a 4 year-old with a new box of crayons. And not just any old crayons, the big box of 64 Crayola crayons, with all the fancy new colours.

It's an assault on the eyeballs.

My biggest issue with the place, though, is the kitchen. It is microscopic. I think there are about 3 feet of counter space and no room to put an island or anything. It might be 5 feet wide. It's teensy.

But it has a fully fenced in back yard and a deck and a three-season porch. There's a huge old maple tree in the back yard that will be perfect for climbing and maybe a swing. The street is quiet, as opposed to the virtual freeway we live on now. There won't be any dogs shitting in the yard or chewing on the cable wires. There won't be any neighbours with 8 children, running riot over the back yard. It's going to be nice. Nice and quiet. And only about 10 blocks from where we live now.

I also have a job interview on Thursday. I'm not sure if I want to work full time right now. I'm kind of enjoying my routine during the day. Boo to preschool, me and The Bug to the Y, where I'm still swimming like a fish, then home, chores, etc.. I may check into part-time work at night, at Barnes and Noble or Borders or someplace like that. We need the money and I, frankly, need the break. Either way, all sorts of things are changing 'round here....

I can seriously say that I love nothing more than painting. Is that allowed? If so, will book the sitter and do it. It's kinda like my swimming.

Yo! Change is good!

Wishing you lots of love and happiness in your soon to be new home.

Our solid waste authority has free paint. Yours may too if you have a recycling facility.

As a former part-time Border's employee and full time book addict - trust me when I suggest you not work there. The discount is too enticing....you'll buy more books. :-)

The walls sound awful, and the tiny kitchen painful but I'm glad you're getting a great backyard, it's one of the reasons I put up with our house.

Yay! Glad you're staying local.

And good luck with the interview. Even if you decide you don't want the job, it's nice to know people are interested, isn't it?

Except for the paint colors, everything sounds really good. I'm sure having Boo in pre-school is nice, so you can have less juggling with two babies. I hope you can get a job that you enjoy. Working at a bookstore sounds right up your alley too! Maybe you can buy your family and - ahem - friends books on your employee discount. ;-)

Not that that's the reason I want you to take a job at a bookstore or anything....

Good luck with the move! We moved in to a small place that needs to be redecorated and we're loving it, so hopefully you'll find the same thing... good luck with the painting!

I'm more curious as to WHY the walls are blood red.

If there are pentagrams and Ouija boards and large stone altars on the property, I'd demand a discount.

It's about the view; the one that we make.

Make it yours; make it good.

I know that you will.

Change can be very good for the soul. Remember to breathe - and pick pretty, calming colors.

Never understood why some people paint their homes the way they do. It should be calming and inviting.
Good luck on the move and on the p/t job hunt.

Julia,
I wish you and your family lots of happiness in your new home. It sounds lovely! It's hard to know where to begin when everything seems covered in colors like that, but paint is cheap and hides a multitude of sins. You will put your stamp on it in no time.
Great song!

Hey there. You are SO good looking! And hote.

Seriously, meeting you and Daysgoby was the highlight of BFF for me. I am so so glad you came. My belly still hurts from the laughter.

Silly me, but, I would have thought you liked teal from the looks of your blog!! I hope you have time to paint some of those colors! The blood red would be nice in a den but not a bedroom. Have you checked the Feng Shui? The colors might be dead-on! Sorry about the tiny kitchen. Any chance you can add-on to it in the future? Just a thought. Congrats on the future job too! Mine has been good for my sanity and my kids!! Hugs!!
