TCBIM started reading the new Harry Potter last night. He had to finish re-reading Order Of The Phoenix first, thus the slight delay.
He took it to work with him last night. He works in a bar on Sunday nights - a bar that gets a decent amount of customers on a Sunday - and he managed to read about 200 pages while there (plus the 100 or so pages he had left to read in TOOTP).
Today, he got up at 7, showered, checked his work email and announced that he didn't have to leave the house until 10. He then sat down and read feverishly for about 2 hours. Left for his appointment and where he'd normally just drive to his next appointment and wait, he decided to come home and read. Twice. (He doesn't take the book with him because he knows I'd have his head if he ever lost it or got it dirty.)
It's cracking me up. He loves the Harry Potter books almost as much as I do, but I never expected him to read at work or race home for 20 minutes so he could get a few more pages in. It's kind of cute.
I just hope he finished the damned thing SOON because I'm going to burst soon if I don't get to discuss this with him.

THANK YOU for saying no spoilers right at the top or I wouldn't have been able to read on. You see, Misterpie is reading it right now, and I am about to leave for five days and won't have time to read while away, so I am holding out till next week to read it. I am torn between itching to dive in and being all, "Meh, I've waited two years, another week won't kill me."
But if anyone talks about it out loud and spoils it for me while I'm away, heads may roll!
I can't believe you're going to wait another week. I would be getting another copy to read in any spare moment. I'm freak that way.
Can't you just ask him where he's up to and then weigh in with oh wasn't it awful /terrifying / great when x happened? Discussion by instalments.
Trying to get through it right now.
In about that exact way--stirring the soup, book in the other hand, french braiding my hair so I don't have to do it before work, skipping Jon Stewart to get in more chapters. :)
oh... they can be so cute sometimes, huh?
I still don't get it but my son won't answer his cell phone till he's done.....haven't talked to him since Saturday :(
My husband, who has not read the book yet, just asked me how I liked the ending. How the hell was I supposed to answer that question without giving something away?? I ignored him. He got the hint.
My honey doesn't read the HP series, so she read spoilers while I was at midnight madness to make sure that she could be there for me if something dreadful happened. It was very sweet.
I think what you said may be the most important aspect of this for me. I'm sad it's over. These books have been an amazing phenomenon. Losing that magic, having an ending, is sad.
